I was feeling much better this morning. We slept in a little later than normal and took our time getting to breakfast. We left Kom Ombo for our last trip on the Nile. We will be in Aswan in a few hours. We sat up on the sun deck and just enjoyed the sights. This will probably be the last day we get any time to relax.
The only thing on the agenda today was a visit to Philae temple. It was a temple to the god Isis built by the Ptolemy’s and added on by the Romans, however, they did not finish all of their additions. Even Emperor Nero had built something here. When the British built the first dam in Aswan, the island of Philae started to flood. In the 1970’s, the temple was disassembled and placed on an adjacent island in the same orientation it was on Philae.
After dinner, our tour representative met us in the parlor. In Egypt, there are normally three people who will interact with you to do the tours. The representative coordinates the entire process, including hotel check-ins, getting the tour guides, … Our representative told us to consider him like our son. He was trying to sell us additional tours for Sunday, because we had a five hour wait for the train. He was a pushy son!
