At breakfast our waiter brought me more of the dried beef from supper last night. They must be overstocked on the beef.
We went to see the temple at Edfou. It was constructed by the Ptolemy’s on top of an earlier Pharaohnic temple. It was started by Ptolemy III and finished by Ptolemy XIII. Most of the cartouches are left blank, because they did not know which Ptolemy would finish the temple. It is the best preserved temple in Egypt. I think Kim is getting tired of seeing temples. Luckily there are only a few to go. On the way in, a vendor asked me to stop at his shop on the way out. Sure enough, he caught me and dragged me into his shop. It took five minutes to get out. Next time, I’m not going to make eye-contact or reply to their calls to visit their shops. Even the word maybe is taken as a binding contract.
At lunch, our waiter brought out more dried beef. He also noticed that I liked the watermelon. I suspect that I will have a plate of watermelon at dinner.
Jon was still a bit green looking when I got back from the temple. I went to dinner by myself, but Sabina and Luke very graciously invited me to join them at their table. We haven’t talked much about the service and food yet on the Sudan, but both are superb. All of the weight we lost on the camel trek has been gained back and more I’m afraid. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style and every delious food you’d ever want to eat is included. Dinner is more formal. It always starts out with an appetizer, followed by a soup, an entrée, and a delicious desert. It is all gourmet and presented very elegantly. A few more days of eating like this and we will triple in size!
