It was a strong thunderstorm that blew through Chicago on Thursday (the story of this trip actually starts a day before we were to fly to Cairo). This thunderstorm was to cancel flights around Chicago and Detroit. After being at a plastics trade-show all week, I was anxious to get home and get ready for this trip. I got to the airport on-time and proceeded to check-in. After two canceled flights, they booked me on a 7:00am flight the next day that would have me arrive in Erie at 11:00 am. That was not going to work, if we were to leave at 5:00 pm on this trip. I quickly booked a seat on AMTRAK and arrived at 7:00 am in Erie. The airlines had already sent my bag out on a flight to Minneapolis and it was supposed to arrive on an 11:00 am flight. Since we needed several items in the bag, I drove back in to get it. To my surprise, the bag only had about a third of the original contents. After a few calls, I was able to locate most of the items in Minneapolis. Apparently someone had opened the bag and did not close it! A very helpful lady boxed up the contents and sent them on the way to Cairo. Hopefully, they will be there when we arrive. Needless to say, both Kim and I were still on edge when we arrived at the Jamestown airport.
We couldn’t believe the crowd at the Jamestown airport. Well, I guess we were the crowd. The airport looked abandoned. I think the agents and TSA were happy we were there to give them something to do. Kim and I were the only ones to board the plane. It was the smallest plane we have been on yet. It had no over-head compartments and you could see the pilots flying the airplane. It was a bumpy flight to Cleveland. We noticed that the barf-bags we prominently displayed. After the ride, we now know why.
Our flight to London was very uncomfortable. We have never been packed in so tightly. I couldn’t eat without putting my elbows in the guy next to me. After 7 hours, we were glad to get off that flight.
P.S. Kudos to Jenna and Nicole for the picture they drew for me in the lab! It makes a nice intro picture to the trip!
